Whether or not you’re working with a therapist, there’s immense value in finding books about racism and resources that can help you process this moment. Then, inevitably, I bring those ideas to therapy, where I can begin to make sense of myself with a qualified mental health professional.ĭuring this particular moment in American history, when we’re reckoning with both deeply ingrained racism and a global pandemic, it can be extremely difficult to understand your relationship to the world around you. Whether there’s a goal I want to achieve, a personal issue I’m tackling, or a topic I’m looking to understand, it’s not unusual for me to seek out writers and thinkers who lend me the language to describe my feelings. I don’t know about you, but in times of confusion-when I don’t have the words to describe my experience-I turn to books. ![]()
